 SPORT AND LEISURE
Having 300 sunny days a year, the Oriental Pyrenees region attracts athletes, both in the summer and in the winter, with countless activities such as walking, kayaking, paragliding, riding, skiing, snowboarding, outdoor motorised sports, and Tramontane attracts gliding sports.
Children’s and teenagers’ free time is not forgotten, the region offering them many possibilities. Handicapped persons benefit from adapted buildings.

 a rich heritage
eusThe Oriental Pyrenees patrimony is very varied. Walking in the back region remains a visual delight and the diversified vegetation will satisfy even the most demanding.

The region overflows with surprises and small jewels, and here we only mention the city of Castelnou in Eus (graded city) or the pipe organs in Illes sur tet, strange geological formations, or even the natural lakes in Bouillouses with its breathtaking view, the parks and gardens, grottos, pipe organs. One should not forget the amazing ‘Fou Gorge’ in Arles-sur-Tech or the ‘Calcareous Gorges’ in Galamus.

There are also countless spas and thalassotherapy resorts, the region being favourable towards relaxation and relief on the seashore.

 Mediterranean crossroads
The Oriental Pyrenees region, being an important Mediterranean intersection, has numerous fortresses and castles, privileged witnesses of the frontier areas during the Middle Ages, such as the Castle of the Majorque King in Perpignan, Salses, Castelnou, Collioure, the Saint Elme fortress which dominates Collioure, the Lagarde fortress in Prats-de-Mollo, the fortress in Villefranche-de-Conflent, the Liberia fortress and the one in Mont Louis.

The region was also home to various artists. Collioure and Ceret simply inspire countless masters of cubism and fauvism. In the Ceret Museum of Modern Art one can see the mark left in the Oriental Pyrenees by great painters and artists such as Picasso, Soutine, Chagal, Matisse, Gris Masson, or even Miro, Tapies, Viallat, Krémégne and others.
